John Ambrose Mackessy 
Sept. 24, 1919 - Sept. 28, 2005 

Born in Tipperary, Tipperary County, Ireland, September 24, 1919. Passed away 
September 28, 2005. From age 7, John attended local schools, graduated 
Stanford University and Boeing Aeronautical School. He then worked for Pan 
American Airways, first as a navigator, then as a meteorologist. John began a 
career in Kern County working as an oil land-lease agent for Western Gulf, 
then later formed a limited partnership with the late Warde D. Watson, 
eventually forming his own independent oil lease and development business. 
John loved and was loved by his family including wife, Charline; son, John 
Patrick Mackessy and his wife, Lesa; daughter, Alison Mackessy Cabell and her 
husband, Nick; granddaughter, Sydney Caroline Mackessy; grandsons, Ben (jamin) 
Norton Cabell and Patrick Mackessy Cabell; sisters-in-law, Helen ONeill 
(Bakersfield) and Winifred Vedder (Santa Barbara); many nieces and nephews 
here and in Ireland. His pleasure was flying cross-country and participating 
in the well-know Nooners of the Bakersfield Racquet Club where he found 
wonderful friends. His family invites all of Johns wide circle of friends to a 
tribute to John at Bakersfield Racquet Club, 1660 Pine St., Sat, October 8th, 
from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given 
to the charity of your choice.
