Jan. 17, 11 a.m. Graveside funeral services will be held in the West Side District Cemetery on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. for longtime Taft resident, Juanita Maize, 88. Rev. Trent Meadors, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church will officiate at the service. Mrs. Maize was born in Van Wert, Ohio on November 6, 1917 and passed away in Bakersfield on January 11, 2006. She was raised and educated in Taft and was a member of Taft First Assembly of God. Mrs. Maize was a member of the Nomad and Gypsy Trailer Clubs. She ran the store at Avila Beach Trailer Resort, now called Ocean Canyon, for ten years. Mrs. Maize loved crafts and taught crafts for many years. She loved that time spent with her grandchildren and really enjoyed family get-togethers. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Raymond and Henry Slentz and four infant siblings and by her grandson, William A. Zimmerman, Jr. Her survivors include her husband of 67 years, Deward Maize of Taft; her two daughters and their husbands, Judy and Jack Leonard of Taft and Deva and Larry Michaelsen of Simi Valley; her brothers and sisters, Betty Barnes and Jack Slentz both of Taft, Boyd Slentz of Downey, Helen Richards of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Patsy Hill and Mary Lou Garges both of Bakersfield; her grandchildren, Fred and Frank Zimmerman, Gary Michaelsen, Cynthia Anderson, Diane and Tim Michaelsen, Don, Dale, and Lora Leonard and adopted grandson, Ronnie Lemen; her 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday from 3:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
