Carmen R. Marquez June 3, 1912 - February 14, 2006 Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1515 Baker St., on Friday, February 17, at 10:00 a.m. for Carmen R. Marquez, 93, who passed away February 14, 2006. Father Bob Wenzinger will officiate and interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. Carmen passed away peacefully with family members at her bedside. She was a native of Mexico and moved to the United States in 1924. She met her future husband, Tomas Marquez and they were married on July 5, 1930, in Bakersfield. Together they raised seven sons and six daughters. Carmen attended night classes to become a citizen of the United States. After completing classes she took the oath on November 20, 1957. Carmen worked for the Bakersfield City School District as a noon time aide at Wayside Elementary School. After she retired she volunteered her services for 13 years at the Senior Adult Center on 4th St. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: Tomas Marquez, Jr., of North Hills, Ca, David Marquez and wife, Mary Rose of Bakersfield, Lupe Tinoco and husband, Frank of Bakersfield, Joe Marquez and wife, Dora of Bakersfield, Mary Cedillos of Van Nuys, Beatrice Gomez and husband, Gilbert of Bakersfield, Leonard Marquez and wife, Sofia of Arleta, Russ Marquez and wife, Susan of Santa Maria, Michael Marquez and wife, Betty of Bakersfield and Helen Hernandez and husband, Edmund of Bakersfield; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Tomas Marquez, Sr., daughters, Annie M. Cantu and Irene M. Moreno, son, Mario Marquez, Sr. and grandson, Mario Marquez Jr. Both our parents continue to live in us. Mom will be missed by all. We will keep her in our thoughts and in our prayers. She will always be in our hearts......... Casketbearers will be Anthony Moreno, Michael-Thomas Marquez, Robert Marquez, Frank Tinoco Jr., Edmund Hernandez II and Gilbert Gomez Jr., and numerous Honorary Casketbearers.
