(Bill) 1911 - 2005 Wilmer L. Marshall (Bill) Services: Wed., Nov. 30, 9:30 a.m. Our Dad began his life in the era of horse and buggy and completed it on November 25, 2005, in the era of space travel. He was born to William Alexander Marshall and Rosetta Myrtle Davis Marshall in Bethany, Illinois on January 25, 1911. He was one of 22 graduates from Bethany High School in 1929, and endured the loss of the family farm during the Depression. He began his career as a lineman for REA (Rural Electric Association) and left to serve his country in the United States in WWII. Dad was a member of the Seabees, stationed in Guam, and helped construct airfields in the Pacific Theatre. While there he was a war correspondent for his hometown newspaper in Mattoon, Illinois. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as an Electricians Mate First Class USNR. Upon his return from the war, Dad began his career with Standard Oil Co., as a lineman, retiring in 1974 as a telecommunications specialist, installing microwave towers. His employment allowed him to enjoy his love of travel. He was his own man who did things his way and enjoyed the simple things in life. He joins his loved ones, Mom and Dad Marshall; brother, Delmar Marshall; son-in-law, Clifford Rice and grandson, Gilbert Rojas, Jr. and special longtime companion, Ruth Steinhouse. Leaving to cherish his life are son, Ronnie Bill (Patti); daughters, Terry Rice and Elizabeth Rojas (Gil); grandchildren, Sandy Akers, Melanie Cope, Steve Tiger Nelson, Brian Marshall, Angie Hatfield and Candi Rojas; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter; brother, Howard Marshall and sister, Helen Oathout. Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 30, at 9:30 a.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery, River Blvd. No visitation is scheduled.
