Jose M. Martinez 
Mar. 19, 1924 - Nov. 20, 2005 

Jose Martinez passed away on a beautiful Sunday morning. Jose was a longtime 
resident of Kern County, living in Wasco for over 30 years before moving into 
Bakersfield. He was born on March 19, 1924, in El Refugio, Queretaro, Mexico. 
Jose was a kind husband, a caring father of four children, a grandfather and 
great-grandfather to numerous grandchildren. Above all, Jose was a beloved and 
genuine friend to all. Jose began working for the Jackson & Perkins Company 
out of Arizona in 1957. In 1967 J. & P. brought Jose and his family to 
California where he continued to work for the company over the next 21 years. 
When not at work he loved tending his garden and staying tuned in to world 
events. His views on politics as well as the retellings of his wonderful life 
stories as a young man, a father, and dedicated worker will surely be missed 
by all who knew him. Jose is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elvira 
Martinez; his 4 children, Cruz Marie De Hoyos, Jose R. Martinez, Gloria 
Juarez, Guadalupe Martinez and many grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 
Peters Funeral Home in Shafter from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22nd. 
A Rosary will follow the viewing from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 
held at St. Teresas Church, in Shafter, on Wednesday, November 23rd at 10:00 
a.m. To a great man who was loved by all who knew him. May he now rest in 
peace, and may God bless our Grandpa.
