Even though she was of extremely modest means, she made sure that each child received a small gift from her at Christmas time. She grew up working as a migrant worker in the fields and packing sheds. She continued in that endeavor for many years until she eventually began working as a domestic house cleaner. She enjoyed her family and many friends along with reading paperback books, playing Skipbo cards and watching Walker, Texas Ranger on television.
