"Papa" 1914 - 2005 Buren A. Mayfield (Papa) March 26, 1914 - October 9, 2005 Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Friday, October 14, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. for Buren Mayfield, who went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 9, 2005, at the age of 91. Buren was born on March 26, 1914 in White City, Texas, to Mac and Frances Mayfield. He graduated from Vernon H.S. in 1932. He married his sweetheart, Naomi Randel on January 26, 1936 and moved to California soon after. Buren was a man of many talents including picking cotton, bagging potatoes, tending bar, driving race cars, owning a bowling alley, playing minor league baseball and construction. He was a supervisor with E.T. Haas Company for over 20 years where he was instrumental in getting the water back on from the earthquake in 1952. He went on to own his own construction company called Mayfield Contracting. He also owned and drove a 10-wheel dump truck (called Big Red) and worked for Don Simpson Engineering as an inspector before retiring in 1985. Buren was a 3rd degree Mason and a member of 1st Presbyterian Church, the Quarter Horse Association, and the Fish and Game Association. He was a strong supporter of the German Shorthair Pointer Association where he was a breeder of several national F.T. champions and also trained and judged many trials. He was passionate about his family, horses, dogs, and especially his vegetable garden. Buren is survived by his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Naomi Mayfield; his son, Mike Mayfield and Barbara of Pocatello, Idaho; his beloved daughter, Pattie Otts of Bakersfield, California; grandchildren include Michelle and John Walker, and Lori Mayfield, all of Carson City, Nevada, Jennifer and Steve Riccomini, Melissa and Gary Hafeli, all of Bakersfield, CA; Mark and Janna Mayfield, and Ben and Mary Mayfield, all of Pocatello, Idaho. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren whom Buren thought the world of Zachary Mayfield, Zachary Riccomini, Garrett Hafeli, Sarah Riccomini, Matthew Walker, Hannah Joe Mayfield, Rebecca Mayfield, and New Baby Walker. Buren lived life to the fullest and was honest to a fault. He was a loving and caring family man, a dear and loyal friend to many, and lived by his saying Faith, Hope, and Charity. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A special thank you to Sheila, Marcey, Adrianna, and all that helped with Hoffman Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Shriners Childrens Hospital or the Bakersfield Alzheimers Association.
