"Bill" 1922 - 2005 George W. (Bill) McLean 1922 - 2005 Graveside services for George W. Bill McLean will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hill of Valor, at 10:00 a.m. Bill was born on June 15, 1922 in Bakersfield, CA to William and Lovell McLean and passed away at home on October 13, 2005, at the age of 83. He is preceded in death by his son, Dan McLean in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen McLean; son, Dennis McLean and wife, Laura; grandchildren, Audrey, Emily, Ashley and Ryan; sister, Louise Jensen and several nephews and nieces. Bill resided in Bakersfield all his life attending local schools and graduating from Bakersfield High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 where he served as an airplane mechanic and aerial gunman until 1946. Bill married Helen Moran in 1947 and raised two sons, Dan and Dennis. He entered the plumbing trade in 1949 and was a longtime active member in the Plumber & Steamfitters Local 460 Union. He was a past Commander in the American Legion Post 26 and active in the F.O.E. Early family activites were boating and water skiing where they were early members of Kern County Boat & Ski Club. During retirement, Bill and Helen traveled abroad but mostly enjoyed the home life. He was a sports fan, played golf, enjoyed all motor sports and woodworking where he spent many hours in his garage. The family would like to thank Hoffman Hospice, Home Instead and close friends for their help and moral support. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hoffman Hospice.
