All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ca/cafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: K T bluewolf@onemain.com November 23, 2005, 12:38 am The Bakersfield Californian Miller DDS, Byron William 1914 - 2005 Byron William Miller DDS, FACD Mar. 1, 1914 - Nov. 18, 2005 Memorial services will be held Monday, November 28th at 10:00 a.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd. for Byron William Miller, DDS, FACD, 91, of Bakersfield, who left us suddenly on Friday, November 18, 2005 to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Pastor Yves Monnier will officiate and private interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Byron was born in Wadena, Minnesota to William and Fern Hamlin Miller. He graduated in 1932 from Maplewood Academy in Hutchinson, MN, received his AA Degree from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, attended The College of Physicians and Surgeons (now University of Pacific Dental School), where he graduated in 1944 with high honors, receiving his B.S. and D.D.S. degrees. Dr. Miller practiced dentistry in Glendale, CA before moving his practice to Sacramento, CA in 1960. He was also on the Continuing Education Faculty at the University of California Dental School from 1961 to 1974. He was inducted into the American College Of Dentists in October 1967. Dentistry was his love, but a physical problem caused by polio when he was young caused him to retire in 1981, after being self-employed since the age of 25. Byron was inducted into Tau Kappa Omega Honor Society in 1943, and the Omicrom Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society in 1944. He was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association since 1944, served as President of the Valley District Dental Society in 1957 and 1958, was Vice-president of the Los Angeles County Dental Society in 1958 and 1959; served on the Clinical Faculty at Loma Linda University from 1945 to 1953 in the Department of Stomatology and the Continuing Education Faculty at the University of California Dental School in San Francisco from 1961 to 1974. He was also inducted into the International College of Dentists in October 1971. He was a past member of the Lions Club and the Seniors in Retirement about 1990. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carol; brother, Dr. Donald Miller; and sisters, Bea Miller, Della Foster and Irma Hansen. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean Miller; son, Brad; sisters, Deane Gunderson, Neva Smith, June Cochran and her husband, Dr. Mel Cochran; sisters- in-law, Alice Lundquist and Michele Detlor. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Charles Hill, Bruce Bonnet, Dr. Steven Cochran, Cheri Mooey, Donna Frank, Guy Gunderson, Edward Smith, Ginny Maupin, Eileen Adicho, Pamela Salcido and Vicki Gonzales. Byron was loved dearly and will be missed by all his friends and family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Bakersfield SPCA or a charity of your choice.
