Hughes Oct. 17, 1909 - Nov. 17, 2005 Public visitation will be held Monday, November 21, 2005, from 3-9PM at Hopson- Anspach Family Mortuary, 620 Oregon Street, with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary said at 7PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Church on Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at 10AM. Father Mike will officiate and interment will follow at Union Cemetery. Mary Vicken Hughes was born October 17, 1909, in New Mexico to Augustine and Belen Montez. She came to Bakersfield in June 1946. During WWII, Mary worked for the Illinois Central Railroad in Waterloo, Iowa. Mary enjoyed spending time with her sisters and her family. She loved Mariachi music and dancing. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Beverly Manor Healthcare for the years of excellent care and support which Mary received. Mary is survived by her son Joseph Hughes, Bakersfield. Daughters Josephine Montes, Bakersfield; Pauline Moreno, Arroyo Grande, and Delores Baltier of Orange County. Brother Joe Montez, Bakersfield; sister Cruz Ruiz, Bakersfield; 20 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary is predeceased by first husband, Nicholas Montes, second husband Carl Hughes, sons Louis and Victor Montes and Carl Hughes Jr., sisters Peggy Caballero, Helen Lomas and Mary Lucero.
