Manuel was born February 13, 1937, in Yuma, Arizona and passed away April 6, 2005, in Bakersfield, California. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years. Manuel is survived by his sweetheart and lifelong companion of 47 years, his wife, Betty; son, Manuel Martinez Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Katrina and Lorenzo Alvarez; grandchildren, Bree and Matthew Alvarez, M.J., Mark Martinez and Andrew Schock; six sisters; one brother as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Manuel loved spending time with his son, Manuel Jr. and his daughter, Katrina. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete in sports and other activities. He loved the mountains and always looked forward to spending the weekends at his "casita" in Kernville where he could fish the Kern River and Lake Isabella. After a day of fishing, he enjoyed sitting around a campfire or playing poker or other card games with his family and friends. He enjoyed trying his luck at the casinos in Las Vegas, Eagle Mountain and The Palace. Manuel also enjoyed the company of his dog Yogi. Manuel was an instant friend to everyone he met and welcomed all into his life. Pallbearers will be Matthew Alvarez, M.J. Martinez, Felix Morales, Edmildo Ramos, Ernie Bermudez, Delfino Covarrubias, Andy Lara and Albert Florez. He will be missed dearly by so many people whose lives he touched.
