Joe, the grandson of Tehachapi pioneers Herb and Ola Mae Force, and the son of their daughter Beverley and Joseph Martin II, was a graduate of Tehachapi High School where he majored in journalism. He was a founding youth member of the Tehachapi Maranantha Fellowship. He obtained a B.A. from Bakersfield College and began a computer oriented career that included working for Kern Schools Federal Credit Union, S.A. Camp Farms, and then Tiberon, where his job as Programmer Analyst took him from Hawaii, across the U.S. and to Puerto Rico helping to write and install the Emergency 911 system in various cities. Joe had recently planned to further his education and become a substance abuse counselor. Joe was an avid gardener, gourmet cook and antique collector. He enjoyed monitoring news, politics and religion. Joseph was preceded in death by his father Joseph Martin II in 1974, and his brothers Timothy and Daniel in 2002. He is survived by his mother Beverley Martin Carroll of Tehachapi, sons Joseph and Loren Martin of Bakersfield, Cpl. LVN Jeffry Martin U.S. Army and wife Crystal of San Antonio Texas, daughter Vanessa and husband Cpl. Matt McGhee US Coast Guard of Ketchikan Alaska, daughter Natalie Martin of Bakersfield, brother Peter Martin and wife Donna of Bakersfield, and sisters Chrystelle Kinsella and husband Bill, Mary Anne Hornbeck and husband John, and Laura Villacana of Tehachapi, Elizabeth Martin and Jennifer Martin of Bakersfield. Joe also had numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends who will miss his mischievous humor and delicious cooking. Joe recently renewed a fervent relationship with Jesus Christ. This was God’s gift allowing he and his family to find comfort during the sudden ravages of metastatic cancer. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Joe’s favorite charity: Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse.
