"Tudy" McDaniels Sr. Services: Sat., Mar. 12, 11:00 a.m. Services are being held Saturday, March 12, 11:00 a.m., in St. John Missionary Church, 1401 E. Brundage Lane, for John Sherman "Tudy" McDaniels Sr., 90, who passed this life March 5, 2005, in Bakersfield, CA. The Reverend Tyree Toliver will officiate with interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Tudy as he was affectionately known was a native of Coy, Arkansas and decided to make Bakersfield his home when the traveling Baseball team, sponsored by Coca Cola, that he was a part of came to play the local team in 1940. He was employed by The Post Office for 8 years and was later employed by the Fox Theater for a short time before becoming a fireman for the City Fire Department, retiring after 25 years. Tudy and his wife, Willie Mae Mc Daniels owned and operated the Cotton Club properties for many years bringing many entertainers to town. He was a sports enthusiast. His first love was Baseball and he would have umpired free for the love of the game. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae and his son, John Sherman McDaniels Jr., 8 brothers and 7 sisters. Survivors include a son, Raymond McDaniels of Los Angeles; 3 daughters, Alvis (Melvin Ray) Brady of Los Angeles, CA, Gloria (Tom) Williams of Oakland, CA and Roena (Dornell) Winters of Bakersfield, CA; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
