Verda was born July 6, 1929 in Miami, Texas to Robert and Mary Elkins where she was the baby of eight children. Verda was a member of Calvary Bible Church, a volunteer at San Joaquin Hospital and manager of the gift shop for many years. The Mayor declared the The Verda McIntosh Day when he decided to give her the key to the City of Bakersfield. Her dream of a cruise was fulfilled when she went to Alaska in 2004. Verda was one of the first patients to have open heart surgery in the country and actually survived five open heart surgeries in her lifetime. She was lovingly known as Cleo the Clown when she entertained many patients with her clown portrayal. Verda is survived by her husband, Lloyd Wilcox; stepson, Stephen Cockrum; daughter, Lisa Alfakih; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Berdene Keim; niece, Gwen Dobbs; 1 great-niece and 1 great-nephew.
