Abelardo Mendez 
December 22, 1919 - July 31, 2005 

Visitation for Abelardo Mendez will be held at the Pentecostal Orthodox Church 
(1712 Morning Drive) on Thursday, August 4, 2005 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with a 
wake service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the 
Pentecostal Orthodox Church on Friday morning, August 5, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. 
Pastor Raul Hernandez will officiate. Abelardo is survived by his loving wife 
of 61 years, Marcelina Mendez; son and daughter-in-law, Abelardo Jr. and Mary 
Mendez; sons, Robert Mendez and Augustine Mendez; daughters and sons-in-law, 
Christela and Jose Galvan; Delia and Victor Portillo; Sally and Sergio 
Becerill; Sylvia and Richard Garcia; daughter, Viola Moreno; 21 grandchildren; 
31 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends. 
Abelardo was born December 22, 1919 in Runge, Texas and went home to be with 
the Lord on July 31, 2005 in Bakersfield, California with his loving family by 
his side. Abelardo was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and loved 
worshiping the Lord. He was a true family man. He enjoyed spending time with 
this family, especially his grandchildren. He died as he lived "surrounded by 
his family". He will be deeply missed by all that knew him. For additional
