Katie was born November 8, 1929, in Indianapolis, Indiana to John and Geneva Miller. She spent her childhood in Indianapolis and graduated from Pike Township High School in 1947. In 1951 Katie graduated from St. Vincent's School of Nursing as a R.N. She brought a gentle touch and comforting words to countless patients while employed at the Elk Horn County Hospital in Elk Horn, WI, Foster Hospital in Ventura, CA, St. Johns Hospital in Oxnard, CA and Shafter Convalescent Hospital in Shafter, CA. On New Years Eve in 1950, Katie met Paul Nevison, the man who would become her loving and faithful husband of 54 years. They were married on October 13, 1951 in Indianapolis. Upon Pauls honorable discharge from the United States Air Force in July, 1952, the newlyweds moved to Ventura, CA and started raising their family. Over the ensuing 50 years, Katies love and compassion touched the hearts of many strangers and friends as the family moved to Poway, CA, Yuma, AZ, Shafter and finally Bakersfield, CA. Her strong Catholic faith and commitment to her church played an important role in her life. She was dedicated to her family, taking delight in family gatherings of all kinds, and her nurturing nature touched the lives of all she met.
