Vanherweg January 17, 1922 - July 11, 2005 Services: Fri., July 15, 10:00 a.m. Millie Vanherweg of Bakersfield, California died peacefully at home surrounded by her children and grandchildren on Monday, July 11, 2005. A Requiem Mass was offered by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Raymond Ruscitto on Wednesday, July 12, 2005, at 5:30 p.m. in Traver, CA. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., followed by a graveside service on Friday, July 15, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. Mildred was born on January 17, 1922, in Lansing, Michigan. She grew up in Eaton Rapids, Michigan and attended local schools. She married Sgt. Maurice Vanherweg in 1943 and were blessed with three children. After retiring from Continental Telephone Company in the 1980's Millie enjoyed traveling with her husband and taking care of her grandchildren. Her greatest pleasures were playing golf with her golfing buddies, playing bridge with her card group and playing bunko with her bunko ladies. Millie had a strong devotion to her Catholic faith and a zest for life that kept her active to the very end. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Millie is preceded in death by Maurice, her husband of 58 years, her infant son, Bobbie Vanherweg, and her parents, Frank and Ruth Miller. She is survived by her brothers, Bob and wife, Beulah Miller and Donald Miller of Michigan; her children, Bonnie Green, William and Gabrielle Vanherweg, John and Janet Vanherweg; and her 10 grandchildren, Tim, Chris and Andy Green, Bridgette, Paul, Genevieve, Clara, Nicolas, Joseph and Elizabeth Vanherweg. The family wishes to thank Michelle, Elizabeth, Laura, and Pippy of Hoffman Hospice and Kim and Nichole of Visiting Angels who provided our Mom with quality care. We also wish to thank Dr. Baker and staff for their medical care over the course of our Moms life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support Hoffman Hospice or Visiting Angels who helped Millie die peacefully and with dignity. Visitation will be today Thursday, 6-8 p. m.
