Morgan 4/18/1926 - 7/23/2005 Kern County lost a highly respected veteran and dedicated public servant following a valiant struggle with cancer. Don was born to Roy and Gladys Davis Morgan in Delano. He graduated Delano High School at 17 years old and enlisted in the United States Navy. Don defended our country in WWII aboard the USS Colorado and fought battles in the South Pacific including Midway, Iwo Jima, Guam, Marianas, Leyte, Mindora and Okinawa. Don returned to Delano and began a career in law enforcement as a reserve with the Kern County Sheriffs Department. He joined the Delano Police Department, the McFarland Police Department and eventually became Chief of McFarland. In 1961 Don Morgan became the first Chief of Police in Arvin. He later joined the Kern County Sheriffs Department as a full-time Deputy and built a career on his reputation for honesty and fairness. He retired after 30 years of service to the citizens of Kern County. Don Morgan was active in the American Legion Post 26. He was a Past Commander and was in charge of the Veterans Day Parade for 10 years. Don was able to travel in the United States and abroad, including two recent trips to Alaska. He was a talented craftsman and entered many beautiful wood projects at the Kern County Fair where he always received ribbons, trophies and Best of Show awards. He truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren going camping, fishing, from Mexico to Alaska, golfing or teaching them how to create their own craft projects in the shop. Don is survived by his wife of 28 years, Chris Morgan; as well as his children, Lee Morgan, Phil Morgan, Ken Morgan, Jack Morgan, Pat Morgan, Patty Chase, Jim Dixon, Rose Merriman and Susan Ward. He will also be missed by 26 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and many dear friends. The familys heartfelt thanks to Hoffmann Hospice. Memorial service will be held Friday, July 29, 2005, 9:00 a.m., at the Church of Christ, 10130 Rosedale Hwy., Minister Regan Walters officiating. Graveside to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery, 2739 Panama Lane.
