At that time a tree, flower plot and plaque will be dedicated to Karen. Karen was born in Redondo Beach, California. She moved with her family to Torrance. After high school she attended El Camino College before moving to Bakersfield where she attended and graduated from California State University, Bakersfield. She worked for Chevron in Bakersfield for almost 10 years before having to retire because of her health. Karen had Muscular Dystrophy and was obliged to live in a wheelchair from age 12. Her family and friends will never forget how loving and cheerful Karen was. She didnt focus on her physical problems but on the positive aspects of her life with her friends and family. Her special love was her companion dog, Franklin. Karens mother, Janet, preceded her in death. She is survived by her father, Steven from Vista, CA; her sister, Kathleen and her family, Matt, Talia and Trevor from Riverside; and her brother, Todd and his family, Kim, Dalton and Nathan from Monterey, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karens name to Canine Companions for Independence, P.O. Box 4568, Oceanside, CA 92052.
