Interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. She was born May 4, 1911, in Farwell, Nebraska, the third of four daughters of Paul and Christine Lang. Oline and two of her sisters migrated from Nebraska during the Great Depression to seek work in Modesto, California. She found work in the canneries, met and married Owen B. Nelson in 1937. They moved to Bakersfield in 1943. She worked in the cafeteria with the Bakersfield City School District for 18 years. She enjoyed taking night classes at Bakersfield College in retirement and served as an election board worker for many years and began travel adventures to Europe, and throughout the U.S. Oline also participated in two Scandinavian heritage lodges, the Danish Sisterhood and VASA. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, serving in many capacities. A lifelong early riser, in her 80's she became an enthusiastic member of Bakersfield College's 5:00 a.m. Shape-Up exercise program. She was a church league bowling team member, scoring a 260 at age 89. Oline was an accomplished hostess. Delicious and beautifully presented food was a celebration of life for her, and a gift of love of her family and friends, who were urged to third helpings at holiday feasts, birthdays and special dinner parties. She was an expert seamstress and skilled craftswoman who learned to make and dress porcelain dolls. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Owen B. Nelson and her three sisters, Edna, Anne and Marie. Oline is survived by her three children and their spouses, Anne Marie (Nelson) and Larry Calderwood of Placerville, CA, Owen and Jane Nelson and Kristie (Nelson) and Bob Coons of Bakersfield and sister-in-law, Jean Pretorius. She will be greatly missed by eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.
