Nelson, Jr. Feb. 2, 1930 - Nov. 3, 2005 Fred was born in Marshalltown, Iowa. His parents Fred and Miriam Nelson were living in Chicago at the time but because of his work as a civil engineer, Fred senior traveled a great deal. His mother was in Iowa with her parents for Freds birth. The family lived in Chicago, Minneapolis, Toledo and Wilmette, IL until 1941 when they moved to La Habra Heights, CA. After graduating from Fullerton High School in 1948, he attended UC Berkeley where he met Barbara, his wife of 51 years. They were soon blessed with three sons. Fred continued his education at Cal Poly SLO majoring in animal husbandry. He worked very hard providing for his family raising lemons and avocados, grafting trees and delivering mail in Fallbrook. As time went on Fred became a systems analyst and worked at Convair, IBM, Kaiser Permanente and Cedars Hospital. Upon retirement Fred became passionate about Video photography and began Shadow Mountain Video Productions. He was able to travel to Greece, Italy, Turkey, South America, Galapagos, Canada, Mexico and the 50 United States. He then edited and narrated the videos of each trip with his resonant voice. He was especially interested in archeology and ancient civilizations. Fred was a man who was curious about everything. He rebuilt airplanes, cars. He was a private pilot and flew cross-country in an antique airplane. He loved planes, trains and boats. He cared deeply about politics, video photography and animals. Above all he passionately cared for all of his beloved family. Fred was an involved member of the Kern River Valley since 1990. The KRV Chamber of Commerce honored Fred and Barbara Nelson in 1999 as Man & Woman of the Year. He served as President of the KRV Historical Society. He served on the Board of the KRV Hospital Foundation and was an advisor to the Death Valley 49ers. He served many years with KV Exchange Club, Sierra Performing Arts, Friends of the Libraries and was a Lake Patrol volunteer. He was a member of the Kern Valley and Fallbrook Chapters of Masonry and Order of the Eastern Star. He videotaped graduations, funerals, community events, and promotional material for local causes. Politics was a passion for him. He worked on each project until he was satisfied that is was up to his high standards. Fred is survived by Anne Nelson, his wife of two years; sons, Fred G. Nelson III, Eric Arthur Nelson and David William Nelson; grand-children, Jessica Nelson, Natalie Nelson, Christopher Nelson and wife, Jamie; great- grandchildren, Daniel and Treasure Anne; sister Jeanne and husband, Forrest Buck. He is also mourned by Annes son, John Fitzpatrick and family. Fred will be greatly missed by his many friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the Fred G. Nelson fund at the Kern Valley Hospital Foundation, which is earmarked for urgently needed New State of the Art Ultrasound Equipment. (P.O.
