John Simmons will officiate at the service. Private entombment will be at a later date in the West Side District Cemetery Mausoleum. Mr. Napier was born in Clarendon, Texas on August 14, 1929 and passed away in Bakersfield on March 18, 2005. During the Korean Conflict Mr. Napier proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He had been employed as a building official for over 23 years, thirteen of which were spent in Taft. Mr. Napier was a member of the Episcopal Church and was a former member of the Buttonwillow Lions Club and served the club as President from 1956 to 1960. He enjoyed traveling and loved the game of golf. Mr. Napier loved his family dearly and was deeply devoted to them and his family loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, in 1993; his parents, Jesse and Bessie Napier and his brother, Gordon Napier. His survivors include his son and his wife, Steve and Becky Napier of Taft; his grandchildren and their spouses, Sarah and Rusty ODonnal of Arizona, Troy and Danielle Simmons of Bakersfield, Nichole and Alex Vega and Kim and Corey VanWinkle all of Taft; his great-grandchildren, Brandi, Travis and Kimberly and by his lifelong friend, Billie Foster of Long Beach. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers donations in Mr. Napiers memory may be sent to the American Heart Association. Friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
