Amanda and Phillip Varnell, her great-niece and husband will be vocalists for the ceremony. Catherine Butler was born Mary Catherine Nelson in Palmyra, Missouri. Her mother was Amanda Elizabeth Young, married to Bertram Louis Nelson. She grew up in Chico, California and married Henry Davis Butler. Henry was a school teacher and later Superintendent of Schools in Delano. When he died of a heart attack in 1953, she became a school teacher at Fremont Elementary School, where she taught for 26 years while raising her two children, Sandra and Davis. After she retired, she moved to Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe, Nevada and later to Carson City, Nevada. She lived life to its fullest, and enjoyed traveling, shopping, game shows, and reunions with family and friends. She loved the outdoors and even went backpacking with her son and his family when in her 70s. She was alert and full of energy to the end. Her brother, Vivian Nelson preceded her in death. Her longtime companion, Fred Cooper of Carson City, NV; her daughter, Sandra Butler of Carson City, NV; her son, Davis Butler of Santa Maria, CA and his wife, Renate Fuchs-Butler, formerly from Schweinfurt, Germany; her granddaughter, Kerstin Butler of Berlin, Germany; and many close relatives and friends survive her.
