Dix New Jersey to Philip D. and Jeanne Porter. He passed away peacefully at home on November 14th, at the age of 56. Being from a military family, Richard was able to see much of the world as he was growing up, moving from place to place. Having spent time in France, he could speak French better than English at the age of 3 years old. He continued his travels, as he himself was a Viet Nam Veteran and served seven years in the U.S. Army. He finally settled in Bakersfield in 1975, and was employed for 17 years with Tenneco West/Dole Fresh Fruit Co. He was last employed with Quinn Co. as a Mechanic and Truck Driver. Richard loved doing things with his hands and making things work. He had many favorite pastimes over the years including his beloved 65 Mustang, Coors Light, drag racing, building model airplanes and taking his family on camping trips. He will be missed around the campfire. Richard was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Jeanne of Florida; his wife of 30 years Linda; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Kyle Wright all of Bakersfield; brother, Philip A. Porter of Florida; nieces and nephews, and many friends including all the board members at his early morning board meetings. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 18th, at 11:00 a.m., at Kern River Family Mortuary Chapel, 1900 N.
