She was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Glenn and Beth Pruitt and was married to Donald Gunder on April 29, 1948. They enjoyed 33 years of marriage before his death. They had five children. Her career as a lab technician spanned 30+ years at KMC. After the untimely passing of her husband, Don, she became involved with Kern Hospice where she served for 10 years. Following that service, she was recruited by Optimal Hospice where she served an additional 10 years. Peggy was recently honored at the annual Hospice Light Up A Life Ceremony for her devotion and dedicated service to families with terminally ill members. She touched the lives of hundreds of people with her caring and compassion, and made it possible for others to face very difficult circumstances. Because of her involvement with Hospice, she made lifelong friends and led a group of widows in a bi-monthly Bible Study. She leaves a legacy of love and caring for others as her lifes work. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, and is survived by her children, son, Rick and wife, Cleta of Prescott Valley, AZ; daughters, Christie and hsuband, Terry Ray of Ventura, CA; Sandy and husband, Peter Beadle of Bakersfield; Cheryl and husband, Rick Mathews of Bakersfield; and Lisa Gunder of Long Lane, MO. She was the proud grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of 11. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will always remember her love and devotion to her family and the powerful impact she left on each one. Peggy was deeply involved with her church family at Christs Church of the Valley, where she led a widows Bible Study, helped distribute script, volunteered in the office, and assisted with an outreach to the women at the Rescue Mission. She also spent many hours helping her neighbors and other friends and never missed an opportunity to support others. She lived her life poured out for others as she loved her Lord, her family, Hospice and friends. A viewing will be held at Greenlawn Southwest, Panama Lane, Wednesday, December 14th, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; a graveside service will be on Friday, December 16th, at 11:00 a.m., also at Greenlawn Southwest. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Optimal Hospice and/or the Cancer Society. The family is grateful for the prayers and support of all those who loved Peggy and made her life so rich and full. Though well miss her, we rest in the assurance that she is at home with her Lord.
