Betty lived in Odessa, Texas for many years. She came back to Bakersfield in January 2005. She was a very loving and caring person. She was always taking people in if they needed help. She loved animals. She had goats, pigs, ducks and even chickens even though she was afraid of feathers. She loved her front yard in Texas with all the flowers and trees and her windmills turning in the middle of the yard. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Athie and Charlotte Phillips; husband, Howard Barker; son, David Barker; brother, Robert Phillips; sister, Ann Perry; and granddaughter, Vickie Lynn Cockren. She is survived by her children, Vickie Barker and son-in-law, David Cockren of Bakersfield, Howard Barker and wife, Deanna of Bakersfield, Betty Barker and husband, Leroy of Texas, James Barker of Bakersfield and Janice Parker of Bakersfield; sister, Pat Rhodes of Odessa, TX; sister, Dorothy and husband, Ray Hare of Rockdale, TX; sister, Christine and husband, Michael Phy of Vinton, VA; sister, Mary and husband, Vernon Overcash of Vinton, VA; sister-in-law, Lisa Phillips of Rockdale, TX; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
