Poore, Jr. 1923 - 2005 Our Dad went to Heaven today to be reunited with our mother and the love of his life, Jacqueline. Dad passed away at home the way he wanted and exactly the way he lived strong. He was an ex-Marine after all, and if you happen to know a World War II veteran, especially a Marine, you will know exactly what we mean. Our father was born and raised in the Midwest and grew up in the city, Omaha, Nebraska, but always spent his summers on the Iowa farm land of his Aunts and Uncles. He always made his own way and took on any task with confidence and bull-force. He had a hard young life but through the struggles he formed an honest, hard working, devoted and patriotic man his family cherished. That is a true statement, but for us kids, he was the man behind the sword too. Daddy took nothing for excuses and expected the best at all times and basically we tried very hard not to get on his bad side, because you knew what was going to happen Daddy was one of those men where right is right and wrong is wrong, no matter who you were, kid, wife, friend, foe. He stood tall and unbending to a fault. Daddy was a Plumber by trade, and helped forming the Bakersfield Local Plumbers and Pipe fitters Union and served on many local, state and national committees. He worked for the City of Bakersfield as a Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector for 20 years before retiring at age 62 to let someone else have a chancesmile. He was that way, make way for the next guy and give them a chance to earn a living for their families. He was the rock. The old lion that was the strength for his family. Jackie and Ray almost made 60 years of marriage before Moms passing and we, his children, cared for him tenderly for the past 2 years with the wonderful support of our own families. Our parents were a gift that we received as children and we children tried our best to be the greatest gift to them always, especially in their time of need. Hold your parents close, they mean the world to every child. Daddy we love you dearly and know you and Mom are rejoicing at your reunion. Your loving children, Michelle and Dennis Claxton, Cheryl Hollis, Eric and Mardi Poore and Candi and Larry McAbee and all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Family would like to thank Dr. Grozdeva at Bakersfield Family Medicine and her Nurse Denise and Trisha for their compassion and care not only for our Dad, but us kids as well. And words cannot express the gratitude to Mom and Dads friends, Doug and Gloria Zimmerman who never failed to be best friends. At Daddys request there will be no service. In celebration of Rays life, please consider donating to the wonderful North Bakersfield Recreation and Parks Meal on Wheels Program, the Optimal Hospice Program or the charity of your choice.
