Father Mark Lawrence will officiate at the service. Joanne was born on April 6, 1949; her parents were Gertrude and Mason Purtle. She grew up in Bakersfield, graduating from East High School. She received Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music with an emphasis on Opera from California State University Northridge. She was a singer and actress on stage and television, and later pursued a career in public relations and exhibit design in New York and Los Angeles. Joanne returned to Bakersfield twelve years ago and made a beautiful home for her husband and daughter. Joanne was an ethusiastic volunteer, principally with the Assistance League of Bakersfield, where she loved to provide school clothes to needy children and for several years managed the Assisteens, the Leagues auxiliary for high school girls. She also was instrumental in revitalizing the preschool at St. Pauls. Joanne brought energy, innovation and organizational strength to every project she undertook. Joanne is survived by her husband, Dennis Mullins; her daughter, Anna Mullins; her sister, Laurie Berryhill of Bakersfield; and her brother, Jeffrey Purtle of Greenville, South Carolina.
