Buchanan Finn May 14, 1918 - March 13, 2005 Services: Thurs., Mar. 17, 2:00 p.m. Nona would like her friends and family to gather at her graveside in the Hillside Section of Greenlawn Cemetery on River Blvd. at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 17th to celebrate her life. Nona passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2005. Nona was born in Bakersfield on May 14, 1918, to Louise A. and Thomas P. Pyle. She was the first of four daughters. She attended local schools, graduating from Kern County Union High School in 1935. In 1995, at the 60th Reunion of the Class of 1935, there were only four attendees who had begun kindergarten together at Fremont School. Nona was one of them. Nona spent most of her life in Bakersfield. She lived in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for 4 years during the oil boom where she and her husband established and operated bush camps for drilling crews of various oil companies. Returning to Bakersfield in 1961, she began working in the accounting office at Kern General Hospital (now KMC), where she remained for nearly 15 years before transferring to the Agricultural Commissioners office. She retired in 1981. Nona was a member of the Kern County Employees Retirement Association, St. Marks United Methodist Church and the Bakersfield African Violet Society. She won many ribbons and trophies for growing these beautiful plants. She also participated as a judge at national conventions of the African Violet Society of America. Nona was preceded in death by her sisters, Marilyn Shambaugh and Leila Mae Boots Parsons. Survivors include her sister, Betty A. Dwyer of Bakersfield and her four children: daughter and son-in-law, Vicki L. (Buchanan) and Warren C. Ringer of Woodland Hills, CA; son and daughter-in-law, Gene T. and Carolyn Buchanan of Pahrump. NV; son and daughter-in-law, Hardy L. and Christina Buchanan of Hauser Lake, ID; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Stacey L. (Buchanan) and David Garry of Las Vegas, NV; eleven grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. The family especially wishes to thank the staff at Columbus Estates where she was so proud to live during the last 6 years; her granddaughter, Lori Miller, for her loving care and continuous support of her grandmother. They also wish to thank the nursing staff at Memorial Hospital who were so kind and considerate during her final hours. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2005 from 4-8 p.m. at Mish Funeral Home, 120 Minner Ave., Oildale, California. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
