Quarnberg May 1, 1937 - Nov. 26, 2005 Maylon was born May 1, 1937, to Elmer and Leah Quarnberg in Scipio, Utah, and passed away November 26, 2005, in Scipio, Utah. Raised on a small dairy farm, Maylon learned the value of good, honest hard work. He grew up in a time and place where a binding contract was nothing more than a handshake and a promise. These values, which were instilled in him by his parents, were the hallmark by which he lived. After attending elementary school in Scipio and high school in Fillmore, Maylon eventually worked his way to Bakersfield, California, in 1957. Here he started his career and family. Maylon always had a love for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. In 1963, along with Gene Wamble, Maylon opened Valley Gun Shop and eventually became the sole proprietor. He operated the business until 1999 when he retired and sold the business to his son, Ken. After retiring, he moved back to Scipio. Maylon had an infectious sense of humor and made many lifelong friends. Whether it was on a hunting trip or one of his famous backyard wild game feasts, he enjoyed good food, good friends and good times at every opportunity. He leaves behind a legacy of honesty and integrity which will be remembered by many for years to come. Maylon was preceded in death by his father, Elmer. He is survived by his mother, Leah; sister, Linda Miller and husband, Marlin; brother, Clinton Quarnberg and wife, Donna; sister, Crystal Aldredge and husband, Bill, all of Utah, as well as his daughter, Nancy Quarnberg and husband, Doug Ingram of Idaho; his son, Ken Quarnberg and wife, Susan of Bakersfield; and daughter, Jan Koch and husband, Walter of Bakersfield. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Sarah Williams and husband, Sean, Paul Bertrand, Molly Quarnberg and Katie Gibson. In keeping with his wishes, Maylon was buried in a private ceremony, in Utah, on a hillside on his own land overlooking the lush farmland of his family. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 12/4/2005.
