Quijas 1/5/1926 - 3/14/2005 IN LOVING MEMORY Born, Jose Telesforo Quijas, 5 January 1926 to Martin and Maria Quijas in Kansas City, Kansas. His family would later move to their future home of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Growing up in the middle of 17 children, his character and values were forged in the shadow and hardships of the Great Depression. Like many of his contemporaries, at a young age his will and determination were tested as he answered the call of his country to fight in Europe during World War II where he was decorated for Service and Bravery. In the aftermath of the war, he returned to his family home where he would remain until the passing of his beloved mother. His time abroad left in him a wanderlust that would remain for the rest of his life, and with this and his loss he felt the need to once again leave his home. He found himself in San Jose, California with his sister when the forces of his life would once again drive him on, this time to Holtville, where he was destined to meet Maria, and take her as his bride in 1954. He would live in her hometown of Mexicali, and there, start a family with his new love, until 1966 when he would move them to settle in their future hometown of Bakersfield, California. It was here that he was to remain, but for visits to his father and siblings, touching the lives of all he met, to the time of his own passing. Maria, their children and families, daughters, Corinna and Tim Murphy, Lorena and Jerry Perez, Irene and Craig Smith, Nancy and Eddie Zepeda, son, Joe Albert Quijas along with his numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren, will here forth lovingly remember him. Joe T. also leaves daughters, Pam and Janette and their families. Our family would like to offer their sincerest gratitude and well wishes to those who gave their love and support to Joe in his final years, Ana Maria (Anita) Valenzuela, his caretaker and daily companion, Dr. Nadim Sarkies, for his caring and patience, the wonderfully caring staff at Gambro Healthcares Calif.
