She passed away on January 15, 2006, in Bakersfield, California. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jewell Berry and her husband, Calvin Joe Hazle. Mary Jo is survived by her son, Gregg Hazle; her grandchildren, Robert Robison, Stacy Hazle Craig and Daniel Gregg Hazle; and her great- grandchildren, Daniel Alan Craig, Kayla Renee Hazle, Kendra Noel and Sonny Miles Robison; and sisters, Charlene Smith and LaMoine Greener. In her early years, Mary Jo grew up in Lubbock, Texas. After the death of her husband in 1944, she and her son moved to southern California. For many years, she remained in Bakersfield, worked as a medical technologist, and raised her son. She later married Robert L. Rist and lived in New Orleans and San Francisco. After Roberts death in 1966, she lived in Texas, the Pacific Northwest, and finally returned to Bakersfield in 2004. Mary Jo lived a full, vibrant life. She was a strong-willed, independent, outgoing woman who loved to garden and enjoyed sewing. Mary Jo's family was most important to her, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
