Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. Visitation begins, Monday, October 3, 2:00- 5:00p.m. Joe Rivera was called home by the Lord on September 29, 2005. He was greeted into heaven by his parents Torivio and Teresa, brothers David and Freddy, son Mario, son-in-law Raymond Rodriguez, and grandsons Frankie Hernandez, Timothy Espinoza and Jerome Walker. He was born on December 20, 1927, in Bakersfield, Ca. Joe worked for Carnation Milk Company for 35 years; he then worked an additional five years for Industrial Freight Truck company before he retired. He was the matriarch to his family, which was the most important aspect in his life, and is the legacy that he has left for us to carry on. He cared for his wife with loving tender care, his daily ritual was having breakfast at Carrows, and chauffeuring his sweetie pie Karyssa from school. Joe was know for his finger-licking good barbecue chicken and famous secret sauce. He had a generous nature and loved to entertain family and friends. He was proud of all the achievements his family had made. Joe is survived by his wife Margaret (PeeWee), his bride of 58 years, daughters Lorraine and Frank Hernandez, Barbara and Ronnie Espinoza, Teresa Rodriquez, Mary and Dennis Martinez, Judy and Dave Bailey, sons Joe and his wife JoAnn, and Julian Rivera. He will be missed by his 17 grandchildren; Anthony, Christopher and Nichole Hernandez, Angela and Trina Espinoza, Jaclyn and Nicholas Rodriquez, Brianna and Karyssa Martinez, Elijah and Jayde Bailey, Lisa, Joseph, Eric, and Matthew Rivera, David and Domenique Rivera. His six great-grandchildren Ashton Hernandez, Trenton Hernandez, Frankie Walker, Timothy Espinosa - Vasquez, Ethan Vargas and Michael Rivera. Brother Edward Rivera, his life long close friend and 5:30 am visitor, Fred Suniga, many nieces, nephews, compadres, comadres and godchildren. Dave Bailey, Dennis Martinez, Christopher Hernandez, David Rivera, Joseph Rivera, and Nicholas Rodriquez will lay Dad to rest. Trina Espinoza, Brianna and Karyssa Martinez, Elijah and Jayde Baily will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. We would like to offer our deepest thanks to the staff at Carrows on Mt. Vernon Avenue. especially Dawn and Robin. They always made his breakfast experience a memorable one, and extended their friendly service and smiles beyond the doors of the restaurant. We also appreciate the caring and hard work the CCU staff at Bakersfield Heart Hospital gave our Dad.
