Rock was born on August 7, 1915, in Minnot, Minnesota, to Leo and Gertrude Lamie. The family moved to South Dakota where she graduated high school, met and married Ralph Boullion. She had two children with Ralph Boullion, a son, Delmar Boullion and a daughter, Nila Jean Raper, both of Bakersfield. Her family moved to Anacortes, WA, and then on to Bakersfield in 1942. On March 19, 1946, she married Herb Rock (Rocky) in Visalia returning to Bakersfield where they had two additional children, a son, Phillip Rock, and a daughter, Vicki Mullins, both of Bakersfield. This March 19th Frances and Herb would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Their love was strong and helped them weather many of lifes storms. During World War II, Frances worked in a tailor shop in Texas making air force officers uniforms. Later in Bakersfield, she worked for several families, some of whom remained close friends such as Josephine Ball and her family as well as the Turman family. In addition, she gave many hours in volunteer service, especially for the Kern Adult Literacy Council where she logged over 650 hours of volunteer service over ten years. She was a trained Laubach Master tutor, a system to teach reading to illiterate adults. She saw a similar need at the Kern Youth Authority and worked with young people there, receiving special recognition in 1974 as one of the very special people who care. Her heart was bigger than she was physically and she would literally help anyone in need with food, clothing, lodging, etc. She was active in the childrens programs at First Baptist Church and later at the Christian Life Center. She often took along many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frances and Herb enjoyed participating in the Fairfax Grange and the Friday night dances. Later in life, she was at Herbs side helping with the cricket farm, providing live bait to pet stores and for those who enjoyed fishing. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Gertrude Lamie, and grandson, Brian Raper. She was the oldest of seven sisters, three of her sisters, Emmaline Rock, Bernadine Simmonds, and Tyke Boullion, preceded her in death. She is survived by the three other sisters, Ruth Corning of Seattle, WA, Marge Jones of Vancouver, WA, and Marlys Hein of Seattle, WA.
