A longtime resident of Caliente, Manuel was born near Shafter on the Miller & Lux Ranch on July 3, 1918. Manuel retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad, San Joaquin Division, as a Heavy Equipment Supervisor in 1982. After retiring he continued to work developing house sites in the Piute, Walkers Basin and Twin Oaks communities. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He left Caliente only when his health declined to the point where he required constant medical attention. Manuel passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 16th. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 65 years, Susie Rodriguez. He is survived by his daughter, Nadine Rodriguez; his sons, Frank Rodriguez, Gerard Rodriguez and Manuel Rodriguez Jr.; his grandchildren, Christine Sanders (Gary Sanders), John Simmons, Karly Battles (Troy Battles), Franz Ebert, Maya Irving (Eric (Irving), Erika Ebert Nelson (Matthew Nelson), and Crystal Rodriguez; great- grandchildren, Lacedon Battles, Ariel Kelly, Nicholas Sanders, Austin Battles, Josef Ebert, Travis Battles, Benjamin Nelson, Evie Simmons, Thomas Nelson and Lucia Irving. Visitation begins Thursday, September 22, at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 23, 10:00 a.m., at San Clement Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
