Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

Thursday with Recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m., at St. Augustine Church in 
Lamont for Leonardo Martinez Rodriguez, 61, of Bakersfield, who passed away 
February 7, 2006, in Panorama City. Funeral service is at 1 p.m., Friday, at 
St. Augustine Catholic Church, with interment to follow at South Kern District 
Cemetery, Arvin. Born in Laredo, Texas, Rodriguez was a maintenance supervisor 
for the Lamont School District. He was perhaps best known in decades past as 
the drummer who performed as well as toured and recorded with various Norteņo 
musical groups including Los Jilgueros del Norte, Los Corteņos and Chuco 
Almaguer. Only days before his death, he was listening to Spanish-language 
radio and discussing music from his hospital bed. He also was greatly devoted 
to, and cared deeply for, his four grandchildren. Rodriguez was preceded in 
death by his father, Benjamin Villalpando, in 2004, and his mother, Sara 
Villalpando, in 1972. He is survived by his wife, Susie; and son, Leo Jr. of 
Bakersfield; daughter, Melanie of Tennessee; a brother, Benjamin Villalpando 
of Arvin; three sisters, Consuelo Rodriguez and Sara Guerra, both of 
Bakersfield and Margarita Colon of Lamont; and his grandchildren. Pallbearers 
will be Leo Rodriguez Jr., Benjamin Villalpando, Angel Castro, Leonel 
Martinez, Juan Gonzales and Frank Garcia.
