He passed away at home with his family by his side on October 5, 2005, at the age of 85. Leos family moved to the Columbine area of Delano in 1921 where he attended Columbine School. Leo married Avis Orender on May 2, 1942. He was a longtime businessman in Delano starting as a partner with his brother, Henry, operating a service station in 1946. In 1956 Leo founded R & S Tire Shop in Delano, which he operated until his retirement in 1981. Upon his retirement, he and his wife, Avis, moved to their mountain home in Panorama Heights. Leo was a life member of the Delano Elks Lodge and a charter member of the Delano Exchange Club. Two brothers, Henry and Elmer and four sisters, Lydia, Rose, Minnie and Anna preceded Leo in death. His wife of 63 years, Avis; son, Jim; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Nick Rost; sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Clarence Gable; granddaughters, Catherine Rost, Melissa Galafate and Amy Jenkins and grandsons, Alfred and Doug, will miss their Papa very much along with his great-grandsons, Alexander, Jonathan, Christopher and Mathew. He also had a number of nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at a future date. Leos family would like to thank the staff at Hoffmann Hospice and especially Lauri Langwell and Kathy Dunham. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hoffmann Hospice, 5300 California Ave., Bakersfield, California 93309.
