She passed away at home on June 13, 2005, from complications following open heart surgery. Ann had a remarkable life, full of professional and personal achievements. She received her training as a Registered Nurse at Elm City Hospital in Waterville, Maine. She attained her Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in Nursing at Los Angeles State College (now Calif. State Univ. at Los Angeles). During her professional career, Ann was employed in hospital, clinic, industrial, and school nursing in a variety of locations, including Queen of Angels Hospital, Mercy Hospital, and for the L.A. City School District. Ann also served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II. Ann married Norman R. Estey in April 1939. During their marriage they lived in many interesting locations, including England and Germany, due to Normans service in the U.S. Air Force. They resided for many years in Southern California in the Los Angeles area. Ann moved to Bakersfield following her marriage to John C. Reaves, a prominent local civil engineer, in April 1966. Since that time, she was involved in numerous local activities and social and civic groups, including the European Club, a French Tea group, and the Bakersfield Womens Club. Ann was especially fond of and thoroughly enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of several bridge clubs and groups, all of which will miss her skilled and fun loving participation. Ann also enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with her husband and family, playing golf, and traveling. She visited countless countries and locales across the globe. Ann was a vibrant and energetic woman, a dedicated and caring friend, and a truly loving mother and wife. All of her family and friends feel a deep sense of loss at her passing. Ann is survived by her son, Russell Estey and his wife, Kathleen VanderBoom; her stepdaughter, Judy Bysshe and her husband, Fredrick Bysshe; by her stepson, Thomas Reaves; her stepdaughter, Joan Fulton; and her stepdaughter, Virginia Reaves; and by 8 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. A graveside service will be held afterwards at Hillcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Anns name to the Disabled Veterans of America or Catholic Charities, Diocese of Fresno.
