All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/obits/obitsca/obitsca.htm ********************************************************** File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: K T bluewolf@onemain.com July 7, 2005, 9:21 pm The Bakersfield Californian Reyes, Julio Escalante 1929 - 2005 Julio Escalante Reyes January 28, 1929 - July 2, 2005 Visitation for Julio Escalante Reyes will be held at Hillcrest Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road on Thursday July 7, 2005, from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by a Rosary Reciting at 7 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Josephs Church, 1515 Baker Street on Friday July 8 at 12:00 p.m. Julio was born to Manuel Silva Reyes and Margarita Escalante Reyes in Colorado, Texas and moved to Bakersfield at about the age of one. Some 20 years later he met Carmelita Andrada who was to be his wife for some 55 years. He worked as a bartender for 40 years before retiring a few years ago. He met many wonderful people, from both sides of the bar, too many to count and mention.to all of you we appreciate your thoughts. Prior to his illness he loved to go to the beach, play golf and anticipated his Monday morning golf dates with fellow bartenders. Julio was a caring and loving husband, father and provider to his wife Carmen and 6 children, Rene, Carrie, Tony, Ernie, Pat and Spoiled Brat Mona. As well as his niece Nicki; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Julio has one surviving sister Tommy Acosta and husband Frank from Los Angeles, CA; and many nieces and nephews from his brothers, Paul and Pasqual; sisters Tommy, Connie, Julia and Margarita. A special thanks to all the spouses and friends of the family, namely Karen, Irene, Arlou, Jenny, Cheryl, Maggie, Sal and Carrie Zaragoza, Richard and Molly Andrada, Carmelita Valdez (Aunt Peter), and the many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who made his last days very memorable and appreciated by the family. A special thanks and appreciation must also go to the nursing staff on the 4th floor at Mercy hospital and Hoffmann Hospice who provided wonderful care for our Dad as if he was one of their own.
