Rick Pitts, Elder of Westside Church of Christ officiating. Cliff was born to Flossie Ellen and Buell Forrest Rice at KMC and was raised in Arvin, CA. He attended local schools and was a member of the first graduating class of Arvin High School, 1952. He was an active member in all sports while in high school. He retired after 32 years with Pac Bell as a lineman and working into supervisorial positions. He began a second career as Lead Custodian for the Standard School District and retired after working 17 years on Highland and Standard Elementary campuses. It was at Standard Elementary that he met his soul mate and love of his life, Terry. They have enjoyed 11 of the most wonderful years possible while traveling to Louisiana to visit family and being spectators at the grandchildrens sporting events. Movies were his hobby and his library is quite extensive. He could quote dialogue, name actors and directors and be right on target! He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Melvin and a granddaughter, Haleigh. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Terry; sons, Mark (Lisa) and Daniel (Debbie) Rice and Steven Nelson; daughters, Robbie Purser, Karen Cline and Sandy (Bill) Akers; along with 13 grandchildren and one great- granddaughter; mother-in-law, Ruby Marshall; father-in-law, Bill Marshall; brother-in-law, Ron Marshall and wife, Patti, all of Bakersfield. Additionally, sister-in-law, Liz Rojas and husband, Gil of San Marcos; and sister-in-law, Lois Rice of Alexandria, LA. In spite of serious health conditions over the years he triumphed and, as Terry told him, He was a man among men. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service at Greenlawn Mortuary.
