Ismael Ortiz Rivas (Smiley) 
May 13, 1943 - August 2, 2005 

Ismael was born May 13, 1943 in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico and he passed away 
August 2, 2005 in Ensenada, Mexico. Ismael is preceded in death by his 
parents, Alberto and Maria Rivas; daughter, Valerie Mendez and brother, Albert 
Rivas. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Rivas; son, George Martinez; 
daughter and son-in-law, Monica and David Garza; son, Ismael "Smiley" Rivas 
Jr.; daughter, Michelle Rivas; brother, Pedro Rivas; sister and brother-in-
law, Rosa and Miguel Vidrio; sister, Paula Estrada; sister, Sylvia Garcia; 
sister, Adriana Rivas; sister, Hilda Ruiz; grandchildren, Robert Ledesma, 
Stephanie Tinoco, Mark Rodriguez, Shiayne Garza, Brianna Martinez, Vanessa 
Martinez, George Martinez Jr., Alyssa Martinez as well as numerous other 
family members and friends. Ismael was a business owner in Bakersfield for 
many years. He lived in Bakersfield for over 40 years before residing in 
Ensenada, Mexico where he lived for the last 7 years. He will remain with us 
always in our hearts and minds. Daddy, you were and will always be the world 
to me! You always told me and made me believe that I could do anything, I will 
never forget our talks! I will never forget the unconditional love you gave 
me. I Will Love You Always, Monica.
