He is survived by his wife, Ani; a daughter, Cathy Cason and her husband, Mike Cason; a son, Jack; a brother, Taggart Rogers and his wife, Barbara; two grandchildren, Caleb and Sara Cason; and many nephews and nieces. Mark was raised in Taft and graduated from Taft Union High School. He spent most of his adult life as a directional drilling engineer, primarily for Anadrill Schlumberger, working in countries around the world. It was on an assignment in Peru that he met and married his wife, Ani. Mark has maintained a residence in Bakersfield since 1986, and he worked the last five years as a human services technician for Kern County in the Delano office. Mark touched many lives in many countries. He always endeavored to live his life by these words, composed as a young man by his grandfather, Merle J. Rogers: "Lord, teach me that 60 minutes make an hour, 16 ounces one pound and 100 cents one dollar. Help me so to live that I can lie down at night with a clear conscience, without a gun under my pillow, and unhaunted by the faces of those to whom I have brought pain. Grant that I may earn my meal ticket on the square and that in earning it I may do unto others as I would have them do unto me. Deafen me to the jingle of tainted money. Blind me to the faults of the other fellow, but reveal me to my own. Guide me so that each night when I look across the dinner table at my wife who has been a blessing to me, I will have nothing to conceal. Keep me young enough to laugh with little children, and sympathetic enough to be considerate of old age. And when comes the day of darkened shades, and smell of flowers, the tread of soft footsteps, and the crunching of wheels in the yard, make the ceremony short and the epitaph simple: Here lies a Man. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 25, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 124 Columbus Street. The family has suggested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 6/21/2005.
