Esther was born October 13, 1923, in Los Angeles, at the age of 24, she married the love of her life, Lorenzo Lawrence Rodriguez. They had a big traditional catholic church wedding. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family. She was always there with a helping hand and continued to be a source of strength up until the very end. She was a great inspiration and teacher of life and laughter. Her sense of humor always put a smile on your face, no matter what the situation was. It is impossible to convey how much she will be missed. Esther retired from Bakersfield College after 10 years as a food service worker. She is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Manuela Mendez; her only beloved son, Arthur Rodriguez and son-in-law, Dennis Sneed; sisters, Frances Rode and Mary Lou Barraza. Her survivors include her husband of 57 years, Lawrence; daughters and their spouses, Evelyn and James Bowling of Taft, Ruth Alderete and Frank Hopper, Ann and Santos Meza, Lorraine Sneed, Lydia and David Rodriguez of Bakersfield and Diana and Robert Guyton of Arizona; thirteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Armida Vallejo, Molly Villegas and Jenny Castro all of Bakersfield and Isabelle Swartz of Los Angeles and special devoted friends, Vincent and Mary Marquez of Bakersfield. Pallbearers will be Santos Meza, James Bowling, Robert Guyton, David Rodriguez, Frank Hopper, and Jason Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Meza and Vincent Marquez. We would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Tan Tran from Kaiser at California Care and his staff, Hospice and Emmanuel San Joaquin. Thank you so very much for caring for mom with such compassion and support. We will be forever bound by her love and strength to continue on.
