Ray was born in Everett, Washington on February 7, 1923, one of five children of Frank and Bessie Russell. Rays family moved to Wilmington, California where he grew up and went to school, attending Banning High School. He and his family were very involved in their church, Wilmington First Assembly of God. The high points of his life were his marriage to Mildred for over 60 years and the births of his two children, Gary and Linda. Ray was employed by Hi-Shear Corporation, located in Torrance, California, as a welder and later welding foreman. Off the job, he enjoyed creating whimsical metal sculptures which revealed the artistic side of his welding ability. When Ray and Mildred retired they moved to Bakersfield to be close to their daughter, Linda Marquesen, and her husband, Steve, and grandson, Stevie. They found a home in the Manors of Bakersfield First Assembly. Ray displayed a quiet and deep faith in the Lord and enjoyed visiting with friends he met at church and in the neighboring manors. Ray loved and was devoted to his family and looked forward to playing card games and watching Star Wars during visits from the grandkids. His grandsons knew him to be a bit of a tease, but was always their number one fan and supporter. Throughout the years, Rays positive outlook and quiet strength never wavered. Ray is survived by his wife, Mildred; son, Gary; and daughter, Linda; his four grandsons, Brandon, Braden, Steven, and Bradley; and his four great-grandsons, Braden, Luca, Marco, and Jordan. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Josephine, his twin, Roy, and twin brothers, Carroll and Carl.
