Sanguinetti Services: Thurs., Sept. 22, 11 a.m. Jack V. Sanguinetti, second generation native of California and youngest son of Kern River oil field pioneers, Henry and Marie Sanguinetti, died Tuesday, September 13, 2005. Born March 20, 1915, Jack spent his first 27 years in the Kern River oil field, where his father superintended first the Linda Vista lease and then the Sesnon lease. He graduated from the Aztec Grammar School, Kern County Union High School and Bakersfield College. In 1937 her began working for Pacific Telephone. During World War II he served in the Navy as a radar technician, including a tour in the South Pacific. While stationed in Seattle he met and married Roberta Brown who predeceased him. At the end of the war, Jack returned to Bakersfield and his job at the telephone company. Jack and Roberta raised three daughters and Jack built their house on Baldwin Road. He loved machinery and working in his shop and could make or fix almost anything. Jack was well read and often quoted Longfellow and Shakespeare, whose poems he had memorized in school. He told wonderful stories about growing up in the oil fields. After he retired in 1980, he and Roberta enjoyed traveling. Jack belonged to the Telephone Pioneers, the Kern County Historical Society, and the Experimental Aircraft Association and was an elder of the Presbyterian Church. Besides his daughters, Mary Alice Sanguinetti of Seattle, Janice Sanguinetti Graves of Kingsburg, California and Edith Sanguinetti Alben of West Linn, Oregon, he is survived by five grandchildren, David, Cynthia and Annette Graves and Caroline and Zachary Alben and great-granddaughter, Lauren Graves. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and will be dearly missed. Donations in his memory can be made to the Bakersfield Rescue Mission or the Salvation Army. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 22 at 11:00 a.m., at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3700 Union Avenue. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 9/20/2005.
