Marjorie E. Shanks Services: Tues., Feb. 14, 2:00 p.m. Marjorie E. Shanks 68, of 37845 Shanks Rd., died Monday, February 6, 2006, at Mercy Southwest Hospital, in Bakersfield, CA, after a 5-year fight with kidney disease. She remained optimistic about finding a cure or a kidney transplant until the very last few days. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye Street, Nora Springs, Iowa with Gary Bauer officiating. Interment will be in the Rock Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel 114 North Hawkeye Street, Nora Springs, Iowa. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that memorials may be directed to one of these kidney organizations in Marjories name, Memorial Renal Fund, 5143 Office Park Drive, Bakersfield, Ca 93303, to benefit patients on dialysis, or National Kidney Foundation of South California, 17100 Ventura Blvd., Suite 222, Encino, Ca 91326, to fund education and research regarding kidney diseases. Marjorie Elaine McDaniel was born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 1, 1937, the daughter of Kenneth and Florence (Parsegian) McDaniel. She lived much of her early childhood in Boston and Bremerton, Washington while her father served as Chaplin to the United States Army from 1941 to 1959. Her mother was an interior decorator. Marjorie graduated from Bremerton High School in Washington State in 1955, and then attended Business College. She worked for Federal Housing Administration in Seattle and later as assistant in accounting for Oakwood Schools of Long Beach, California. Her talents included interior design, decorating and meticulous attention to numbers and details with unique flair for future business expansion trends. Marjorie was a gifted pianist and organist, often playing for her fathers church services and youth events. She loved dancing and riding horseback. Marjorie was united in marriage to George Shanks on June 29, 1973, in California. Together with her husband George built a successful construction company, in Ontario, CA, traveled extensively, piloted their own airplane which they used for business and pleasure, and later designed and built their retirement home near Twin Oaks, California. Marjorie is survived by her husband of 33 years George Shanks of Caliente, CA; her mother, Jerrie McDaniel of Bremerton, WA; children, Julie Hoppis of Manteca, CA, Lisa Holland, of Edmonds, WA, stepchildren, Debra Mull of Santa Rosa, CA, Teresa Hevener of Akron, Ohio, and Rick Shanks of Victorville, CA; grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, Rachael, Laurel, and McKenna Hoppis, Cole Holland, Jamie, Josh, and Jeremy Hevener, Garrett Lee, Sara Ann and Shawn Shanks, and Ryan Mull, great-grandchild, Emma Shanks; brother, Dennis McDaniel of Bremerton, WA, along with other relatives and friends. Marjorie is preceded in death by her father, Chaplin Kenneth McDaniel; stepson, Marty Shanks; and stepgranddaughter, Jennifer Mull.
