Stephen Samuel Shy

March 24, 1983 – Jan. 10, 2006

Stephen Samuel Shy, 22, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 10, 2006. He was 
born in Bakersfield on March 24, 1983 to Donn and Carol Shy.

Stephen was a life-long resident of Tehachapi and graduated from Tehachapi 
High School in 2001. After working through the ranks of Cub Scouts, Webelos 
and Boy Scouts, he was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on March 17, 2001.

Stephen was a full-time student at California State University, Bakersfield 
working toward an elementary teaching credential. He loved working with 
children. 

Stephen attended Calvary Bible Fellowship. He had a heart for the Lord and had 
a great desire to serve.

He is survived by his parents, Donn and Carol Shy; brother, Mark Shy and wife 
Linda; sister, Carrie Shy Darnall and husband Chris and sister Helen Shy; 
grandparents, Jean Lind and George Tompkins; aunt Sally Tompkins Gallops and 
husband Jim; and aunt Julie Mince. He will be missed by his numerous nieces 
and nephews.

A private burial was followed by a memorial service held at Mountain Bible 
Church on Jan. 14, which was officiated by Dr. Marvin Slifer and pastor Carey 
Danielson. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Bible Fellowship Building 
Fund, Mountain Bible Church Deacon Fund, or Boy Scouts of America Troop 136. 
Arrangements were handled by Wood Family Funeral Service.
