Singer, Ph.D. Oct. 13, 1924 - Nov. 18, 2005 Services: Tues., Nov. 22, 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd., today (Tuesday), November 22nd at 11:00 a.m. for Dr. George Singer, Ph.D., 81, of Bakersfield, who passed away November 18, 2005 in a Bakersfield hospital. Howard Silver and the Kern County Veterans' Association will officiate. Dr. Singer was born to the late Benjamin and Bessie Singer in Philadelphia, PA, on October 13, 1924. After serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII, Dr. Singer attended Temple University in Philadelphia where he earned his Ph.D. in Psychology. He served as Director of Psychological Services for Pennhurst State Hospital, PA from 1958 - 1961, until he traveled to Bakersfield, CA to undertake the opening of the Kern County Mental Health Department where he was a clinical psychologist from 1961-1968. From 1968- 1971, Dr. Singer served as project director and program coordinator for Kern View Hospital and Community Health Center. Dr. Singer began his own clinical psychology practice in 1953 in Pennsylvania and continued private practice since moving to Kern County until October of 2001 when he reluctantly retired due to health reasons. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Carol; daughters, Susan Singer, Sonnet Singer, Elizabeth Settlemire and her husband, Michael; and his granddaughter, Savannah. Others that were special in his life are Jennifer Ramirez, Joan Abercrombie, Faye Sayre, Karen Abercrombie, Darrel and Delbert Abercrombie. Our Papa was loved and respected by many wonderful friends and colleagues and will be truly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, please support the Valley Fever Vaccine Project P. O.
