Edgar Alfred Stanley 
June 10, 1921 - October 8, 2005 

Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church will be held on Monday, October 
17th, at 10:00 a.m. with inurnment to follow in the Court of Honor at 
Hillcrest Memorial Park. Al as he was known by those who knew him and loved 
him, was born June 10, 1921 in Oklahoma to Edgar Alfred and Flora Alice 
Stanley. Bud, his father was a carpenter and taught Al the carpentry trade. 
The Dust Bowl brought his family to Bakersfield, where he finished high school 
at B.H.S. Swimming and tumbling were his favorite sports activities. He met 
Frances Mildred Hess and after graduating they married on December 25, 1940. 
Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 61 years in September 
of 2001. Al did many things in his life including being a paratrooper in WWII, 
where he was stationed in France. He loved baseball enough that he built a pro-
baseball team into a local league champion. Soon after he returned home from 
the war, he obtained his Building Contractors License and during his career as 
a builder, built homes all over California and in southern Illinois. As his 
business grew, he learned to fly and became a pilot and owned several small 
planes during his career. Flying and golf were his favorite activities for the 
rest of his life. He and Frances moved to Illinois for about 10 years where 
they owned and operated an auction center, and learned the auction business. 
Al and Frances are succeeded by their 4 children, Stephen Stanley of Santa 
Maria, David Stanley, Susanne Stanley, and Linda Wells all of Bakersfield; 10 
grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. Al will be missed greatly, we could 
always count on him for one more great business idea.
