Justice William A. Stone Services: Fri., Feb. 3, 11:00 a.m. Justice William A. Stone died suddenly on Saturday evening, January 28, 2006 at his home in Cayucos, California. Bill was born in Porterville on July 24, 1939; his parents were Frederick and Edna Stone. He grew up in Visalia and graduated from Redwood High School in 1957. After receiving a degree in Political Science from Stanford University in 1961, he attended Stanford Law School. Upon graduating in 1964 he immediately began work as an attorney for the law firm of Mack, Bianco, and Means in Bakersfield. Bills career on the bench began in 1971 when he was appointed to the Municipal Court in Bakersfield. In 1977 the Governor appointed him to the Kern County Superior Court where he served until 1988. He concluded his career on the 5th District Court of Appeal in Fresno where he served until his retirement in 1999. Bill was a member of many professional organizations and served on numerous community boards. He especially enjoyed the many friendships he made as a member of Rotary International. He was the president of Bakersfield East Rotary Club in 1986. After retirement, Bill pursued his passion for travel by touring with his wife, and his passion for his Christian faith by participating in three missionary trips to the Ukraine. Bill is survived by his brother, John of Arizona; his wife, Diane; and his three sons: James of Sacramento, Jeff and his wife, May of Zaragoza, Spain, and Michael of Fort Hood, Texas. A very special little girl came into his life in 2004, when Marta, his only granddaughter was born. Bill will be remembered for his humility, his sincere love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his keen mind and sharp intellect, and his absolute loyalty to and adoration of his family. A memorial service celebration of Bills life will be conducted at the Evangelical Free Church of Fresno on Friday, February 3rd, at 11:00 a.m. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Fresno Rescue Mission, 310 G Street, Fresno, Ca 93706.
